A magnitude-3.7 earthquake struck the southeast flank of Kilauea volcano late Wednesday night. The minor temblor happened at 10:43 p.m. at a depth of 6 miles, according to a report by the U.S. Geological Survey’s Hawaiian Volcano Observatory.

An earthquake of that strength is usually widely felt but is not strong enough to cause damage.

It occurred under the Hilina fault system of Kilauea’s unsupported seaward flank, which is slowly moving toward the ocean. Earthquakes of this magnitude happens several times a year.
